What is 1% for the Planet?

1% for the Planet is an international organization founded in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, together with Craig Mathews. The purpose is simple but powerful: businesses commit to donating at least 1 percent of their annual revenue to environmental organizations.

The organization was created to ensure that environmental work is transparent, long-term and leads to real change – not greenwashing.

What does 1% for the Planet do?

1% for the Planet acts as a link between businesses and carefully vetted environmental nonprofits around the world. The organization ensures that all contributions go to verified projects working on climate change, biodiversity, conservation, water and ocean issues, and environmental justice.

How we contribute

As members of 1% for the Planet we set aside 1 percent of our revenue every year for certified environmental organizations within the network. It is an ongoing commitment, not a one-off effort.

Our contribution is tracked and verified, creating transparency and accountability in our sustainability work.
